Starting in Valréas : you can park round the edge of the town centre in the cours Jean Jaurès. At the end of the avenue, at the roundabout with a little olive tree, follow the sign for Vinsobres, then at the end take the D 46 towards Vinsobres. The road goes steeply uphill with hairpin bends for 4 kms winding through vineyards, truffle oaks and fruit orchards. At the Sainte Croix crossroad, in the bend, turn left towards Visan (notice the beautiful cross at this crossroad). The minor road follows the crest of the hill for 5,3 kms and all the way along there are lovely views, on the left of the plateau de Vinsobres and the Baronnies, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail and occasionally on the right you can catch a glimpse of Valréas in the distance through the trees.
After a steep downhill section crossing the Saint Maurice road on the mountain road at les Françons, turn left towards the quartier Poulidon. At the bridge, turn right towards Visan. Here the road goes steeply uphill again in hairpin bends for 1,7 kms. You will come to a crossroad where you must turn right towards Visan. Don’t go past without admiring the wonderful field of olive trees on the hill. The long downhill run to Visan (3,5 kms) goes past vineyards, Austrian pines and truffle oaks . In Visan, at the crossroad with the Pharmacy facing you, turn right as far as the roundabout and then turn left towards Richerenches (7kms). The road runs through vineyards with the occasional lavender fi eld against a backdrop on the right of the montagne de la Lance. Go through the village of Richerenches and as you leave the village take a left turn towards Montségur sur Lauzon. Thee road is surrounded by fi elds of lavender and aromatic herbs. Just before the bridge over the stream, the Aulière, turn right towards Grillon(4).
Keep going straight along the road (no turnings) up to the junction with the D 20(5) from Richerenches. Turn left, then in a big bend, turn left towards Colonzelle. You arrive in Grillon in the quartier de la Rochette. In the Place de la Bourgade, take the road for Valréas and leave the village. At the last bend to the left, just past the chambre d’hôtes ‘Au vieux chêne’, don’t take the main road round the bend but continue straight on along the old road (so that you can avoid the main road which has lots of traffic) (6). On the right you will see the montagne de la Lance again. At the ‘Stop’ sign, go straight on to get back to Valréas. When you get to the town, follow the cours de Gaulle which goes up to your right and turns into the cours Jean Jaurès. This is the end of the circuit. You can come back to the camping and have a drink !
